Day 85

Published:

Today we had a mellow twenty one miles into town, two short climbs bookended by chill descents, the latter of which was thirteen miles. The main obstacles were the heat and smoke from a small fire off of Interstate 5 just a mile or two away from trail.

We easily got a hitch into Ashland from a very nice ultra runner from Santa Cruz who was running a 100k on part of the PCT tomorrow. After stopping at the post office, we went straight to bird and rye, where I ate an excellent greens salad and one of the best fried chicken sandwiches of my entire life. I almost ordered a second but restrained myself for the pint of ice cream I had planned for afterwards.

We took a pit stop at the gear store, where I hung out with a cute dog.

Soon after, Roadrunner’s parents arrived and whisked us away to an amazing Airbnb: big beds, pool and hot tub, and a kitchen where they would prepare an amazing home cooked meal for us.
